The fleeting forever: the whispering patterns and elemental forces in nature, moons and tides, markers of time and lives. The familiarity and vulnerability of migrating butterflies and swallows, of displaced peoples and the fugitive forms of clouds.

Plein air drawings in graphite and indigo, eccentrically woven iron wire tapestries. Forms and marks developed into fragmentary kaleidoscopic drawing pieces, taleidoscopes, film and soundscapes.

Indigo Cloudscape

Plein air drawing of evolving cloud forms becomes a graphic score for a layered soundscape of collaged sounds of journeys I have made in the 12 months since Russia invaded Ukraine. Thinking of journeys

of displacement. February 2023.

All Under the Same Sky

Plein air drawing of storm clouds passing over my home on the day that Russia invaded Ukraine February 2022. With the digital connectedness across continents, more than ever we can hear immediately and first hand from those whose normal, everyday lives have been torn apart.

This 5 metre long concertina sketchbook was split into sections of 3 pages that were sold to raise funds for the people of Ukraine through the Artists Support Pledge initiative.

I retained this section and used marks from it to inform the shape of reflective wall pieces for the Kaleidoscopic exhibition in Salisbury in September 2022.

Kaleidoscopic

Solo exhibition at Salisbury Arts Centre September - November 2022

Perception is like a shifting kaleidoscope. We all have different views and experiences that can evolve and change, just like the patterns as we twist the kaleidoscope. The morphing forms, reflected light and shade of clouds, individually interpreted, became liquid mercury semiotic scribbles in which you see yourself in all you look at. Directional speakers provided pools of sound within the space, where a collaged soundscape of children’s laughter, whispering voices and birdsong shifted perception aurally.

Seven scribble mirror clouds, each 1.5m x 1m, three, freestanding ‘Toots’ interactive teleidoscopes, soundscape, directional speaker and sensory film.

Educational and community engagement project in partnership with Roche Court Educational Trust and the New Art Centre.

The Ghostings (excerpt)

Film poem made in collaboration with Gardener Poet Nick Hood in response to our first visit to the elemental edgelands of Dungeness and Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage on one of the hottest days in July 2022. This is a glimpse into a new series of work in the making.
